Doctor Who 2026 Trading Cards: First Look at the Anniversary Set
Share
The Doctor Who anniversary cycle isn't done yet. The 60th in 2023 brought us three specials, a regeneration, and a new era under Russell T Davies. The 61st year — 2024 — gave us Ncuti Gatwa's first full series. Now 2026 is shaping up to be the year the collectibles market catches up.
Here's what we know, what we're hearing, and what to look for if you're collecting Doctor Who cards this year.
What's confirmed
Cardsmiths Doctor Who: Time Capsule (US, summer 2026). Cardsmiths confirmed at New York Toy Fair 2026 that their second-wave Doctor Who set ships in July. The set is 100 base cards covering every Doctor from One through Fifteen, with parallel inserts using their crystal-foil treatment. UK distribution through Magic Madhouse and Asgard Games.
Panini Doctor Who Sticker Album (UK + EU, autumn 2026). Panini quietly listed a Doctor Who sticker album on their distributor schedule for September 2026. This will be the first new Panini Doctor Who release since 1989 — a long gap. Expect 200+ stickers in a saddle-stitched album, the format Panini do well.
BBC Studios Anniversary Tin Set (worldwide, October 2026). BBC Studios announced a limited tin-boxed card set as part of the wider Doctor Who 2026 merchandising programme. 50 cards in a metal tin, one rare hologram chase card per tin. Pre-orders open in July through the official Doctor Who shop.
What's rumoured
Topps Chrome Doctor Who is the one collectors keep asking about. There's no confirmation yet. Topps did the 50th anniversary Chrome set in 2013 and it remains one of the most collectible Doctor Who card runs — clean Topps Chrome refractors of classic Doctors sell for £80–250 in graded condition.
The rumour mill (Beckett News, Cardlines podcast, multiple distributor sources) puts a new Topps Chrome Doctor Who set as likely for late 2026 or early 2027. If it lands in 2026 it'll be the third anniversary set of the year and the highest-value modern release in the franchise.
An Iconic Cards Doctor Who set? We get asked. The honest answer: we'd love to, the rights conversation is genuinely complicated, and we're not going to print anything we don't fully own. If it happens, you'll hear about it here first.
What to look for if you're collecting
Buy at retail. Panini sticker albums are still cheap on launch day — the album is £4–5, packets are £1. The serious money on Panini sets comes from completing the album, not from individual stickers. Buy a sealed box (50 packets, around £50) and you'll get the album done with extras to trade.
Skip case-breaks for tin sets. The BBC Studios tin sets are sealed product designed to be opened and displayed. Case-breaks (where someone opens a sealed case on stream and you buy a slot) work for hit-driven products like Topps Chrome. They don't work for products where the value is in the sealed tin itself.
Watch graded comps. Doctor Who is a sleeper category in the grading market. PSA 10 sales of older Doctor Who cards (2013 Topps Chrome, Cornerstone non-sport sets) have crept up steadily over the last 18 months. If the rumoured Topps Chrome 2026 set lands, expect Doctor Who to become a real grading category for the first time.
Don't sleep on the Cardsmiths release. Cardsmiths is the smaller name on this list, but their Time Capsule format is one of the better non-sport designs in the market. The first-wave Cardsmiths Doctor Who set (2023) is already trading at 2x retail on sealed boxes.
What we'd buy
If we had £200 to spend on Doctor Who collectibles in 2026 right now, this is the split:
- £80 on a sealed Cardsmiths Time Capsule box at retail (July)
- £50 on two Panini sticker album boxes (September)
- £60 on the BBC Studios tin (October)
- £10 left over for shipping and shop coffees
Not financial advice — but that's the spread that catches every confirmed release without overcommitting to one product.
What we're watching
The Topps Chrome rumour is the big one. If that lands in 2026, the whole Doctor Who category re-prices upward. We'll keep an eye on it and post again the moment it's announced.
In the meantime — browse our current sets and let us know what franchise you'd want us to print next.
